PAS won't be stepping stone for others, says Nik Abduh

Those who seek to make use of PAS for political mileage will not succeed, said the Islamic party's youth chief Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz, adding that all should respect the party as Malaysians' second choice.

This is after Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) President Muhyiddin Yassin said he was confident he could be the middleman to link up PAS with the other opposition parties in a grand anti-BN coalition.

"PAS is now calling to Gagasan Sejahtera. It is leading an opposition movement with its own brand of discipline and methods.

"PAS is building a stairway for the rakyat to reach Putrajaya, not becoming stepping stone for other parties," Nik Abduh said in a Facebook posting.

He said that those trying to dissuade the Islamic party from its path were acting in the same deplorable manner as former PAS leaders (now Amanah), and would be just as ineffective.

"In Malaysia, after Umno, PAS is the rakyat's main choice. Know and acknowledge this before you deal with the party," he added.

He said the PAS leadership must safeguard the trust placed on the party by its members and supporters.

"Allah willing, PAS Youth will bear this big responsibility," he said.

Earlier today, former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim said all opposition parties, including PAS, DAP and Bersatu, must sit together and discuss the formation of a viable coalition.

PAS, however, had said that it will not work or have anything to do with DAP, which it accused of being anti-Islam, nor with any parties that support or work with the socialist democrats.

The sole exception is PKR, which PAS still maintains as a political ally especially in Selangor.
