Umno splinter Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) today announced the appointment of the top three posts in the party.

This includes Jorak assemblyperson and former Johor Umno leader Shahruddin Md Salleh, who is appointed secretary-general.

Ireland-trained accountant Salleh Bajuri is appointed treasurer general while former Semerak assemblyperson Kamarudin Md Nor is information chief, pro-tem president Muhyiddin Yassin said in a statement.

Muhyiddin, who is former deputy premier, said the appointees are also automatically central committee members as per Article 13.7 of the party's constitution.

“I congratulate them and pray that they can contribute their energy and wisdom in ensuring the smooth administration of the party,” he said.

Bersatu was formed after Muhyiddin and former Kedah menteri mesar Mukhriz Mahathir were sacked from Umno, following criticism against Umno president Najib Abdul Razak.

Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad is Bersatu adviser.
