Lip Eng: By Umno MP's logic, MACC should go after Najib, too

Sabah Umno MP Raime Unggi's call to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to probe former minister Mohd Shafie Apdal over the massive graft haul in the state should by his logic, extend to other BN ministers as well as Prime Minister Najib Razak himself.

Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng said the Tenom MP's statement yesterday was curious, asking where Raime had been all this while when corruption cases had been highlighted in various ministries as well as the prime minister's stepson.

"I am baffled. From where did Raime emerge? Was he on another planet before yesterday?" quipped Lim.

"Why didn't he come forward to urge MACC to investigate Ahmad Shabery Cheek and Khairy Jamaluddin, who are the former and present minister of the Youth and Sports Ministry over corruption and embezzlement of funds amounting to RM138.5 million involving former a former officer committed between 2012 and 2015?"

"Based on Raime's wisdom, it is also impossible for the said officer to amass such a large sum without the knowledge of his two bosses," said Lim in a statement today.

The DAP parliamentarian said if MACC is to listen to Raime's call to investigate Shafie, who quit Umno recently to set up his own political platform in Sabah, the commission should also then investigate Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor over the RM10 million corruption case involving a Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL) high ranking officer.

"And shouldn't Raime and other BN parliamentarians also urge MACC to investigate the mother and stepfather of Riza Aziz, none other than Najib and his wife Rosmah Mansor, about how a junior bank officer of four years' experience could amass wealth amounting to US$238 million for Red Granite Capital, and further own assets in America worth US$50 million?" asked Lim.

Lim said it was more worthwhile to call for Tengku Adnan to be questioned if the latter had such wealth that it would attract kidnappers, as the minister said in August that asset declaration would expose his family to such dangers.

"Raime and his colleagues in Umno should comment further on these examples," said the MP, to allay the suspicions of a conspiracy to end the political careers of those who had fallen out with Umno.
