The brouhaha over holding Penang Run a day after Deepavali continues with the organiser firing salvos at Gerakan for politicising the matter.

In a statement today, ActifeStyle Concept spokesperson Andrew Loh criticised Gerakan for politicising the event as he had apologised for organising the activity on Oct 30.

"I cannot understand why Gerakan continues to politicise the Penang Run 2016 and attack this event when they had kept silent on the Penang Run 2013 that was held on the very day of Thaipusam itself, " Loh said.

"Neither the organiser then or any party had to apologise for organisng the 2013 Penang Run on the day of Thaipusam.

"Gerakan did not criticise nor ask the 2013 Penang Run organisers to apologise for organising the 2013 Penang Run on Thaipusam Day, " he added.

Loh said he refused to be dragged further into these "political games" by Gerakan to use the 2016 Penang Run to attack the Penang state government.

He expresed hope that the 1,780 participants, including 56 Indians (more than the 38 Indians when the event was held in July this year) will be allowed to promote the event's objective of encouraging a clean and healthy lifestyle in Penang.

He reiterated that the Penang government is not the organiser and MBPP is merely providing technical assistance as ActifeStyle is the principal organiser of the event.

Ramasamy had slammed the organiser for being insensitive to Indians but said the event could not be cancelled as it is a private one. He, however, assured such incident will not recur.

Today, Gerakan state leaders appeared in Komtar and submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng over the event.

They wanted Lim to clarify why his deputy Ramasamy was trying to confuse the public by saying that the event company had apologised even though they had not.

The party's youth vice-chief H. Puvaniten questioned the "double standards" by Penang DAP leaders, who reportedly channeled the blame to the organiser.

Puvaniten recalled that in 2013, Lim, Ramasamy and Tanjong MP Ng Wei Aik blamed Gerakan for being insensitive for the event which was held on Thaipusam Day.

"Gerakan was not even the organiser, " Puvaniten told reporters in Komtar.

"But today, Ramasamy pushed the blame to the organiser and Penang Island City Council, as if the state government is totally not involved and not aware that the event is held during the Deepavali Festival."
