Conditions of two nurses, physiotherapist in HSA blaze improved

The condition of two nurses and a trainee physiotherapist of the Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA), who were injured in a blaze at its intensive care unit (ICU) last Tuesday has improved.

Johor Health and Environment Committee chairperson Ayub Rahmat said the trio were no longer dependent on a ventilator and the nurses no longer needed oxygen aid.

Only the trainee physiotherapist was being given normal oxygen treatment, he said in a statement in Johor Baru today.

Ayub said the three victims, Nursuhaily Saliman @ Suleiman, 23, Nurul Ain Zulkurnain, 24, and Siti Nurshafika Mohd Amsah, 21, were still warded at the burn care unit for observation.

The blaze at the ICU had claimed the lives of six critically ill patients.

On S Supammah, 67, an ICU patient who was rescued in the tragedy, Ayub said her condition was still critical and was being treated at the burn care unit.

"She is still on a respirator but in stable condition and being monitored by experts," he said, adding that patients admitted to HSA for elective surgery were allowed to return home.

He also said most emergency cases would now be referred to and handled by the Kulai Hospital.

Therefore, people in the neighbourhood who want to get non-emergency care can go to Saleng 1Malaysia Clinic in Bandar Putra and Kulai Besar Health Clinic.
