Former BSI banker Yeo Jiawei denied taking any money from Penang-born billionaire Low Taek Jho, a central figure in the 1MDB scandal.

Yeo told a Singapore Court that he "never received a single cent from Jho Low before", according to Singapore's Business Times.

He said this during his trial for aiding in laundering funds linked to 1MDB and trying to cover up the crime.

During the trial, Yeo's former supervisor at BSI Bank Kevin Sampillai had testified that Yeo was working for Jho Low and referred to him as "boss".

Another witness, ex-income distribution chief Samuel Goh Sze-Wei had also testified that Yeo had ordered him to destroy documents to cover up the money laundering.

However, Yeo told the court today that the claim was untrue.

"It's not true that everything he does must be instructed by me," he was quoted as saying.

Yesterday, the Commercial Affairs Department (CAD) told the Singapore Court that Jho Low was a "person of interest".

The US Department of Justice had also named Jho Low as a beneficiary of funds misappropriated from 1MDB.

The DOJ believes that around US$3.5 billion was misappropriated from 1MDB and laundered through the US financial system.

1MDB denies that its money had been misappropriated.
