The broad opposition coalition has been urged to stop courting PAS saying the latter has shown it is not committed to a united effort working towards a change of government.

"(Harapan) must realise Malaysia is in a situation that is extremely perilous in terms of the economy, society and politics, and a drastic movement must be undertaken to replace the ruling party in order to save the country.

"To realise this goal, a strong coalition is needed from the opposition to take down the BN regime.

"However this goal is hampered whenever there are leaders in Harapan and its colleagues who still want to rope in PAS into the opposition coalition.

"PAS from its actions can clearly be seen to have no commitment to accept Harapan's invitation, by issuing all sorts of reasons and conditions," said the NGO Pro-Pakatan Harapan in a memorandum.

The coalition of grassroots organisations yesterday handed the memorandum to the heads of Harapan component parties, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and Parti Warisan Sabah during the Harapan convention.

The memorandum was jointly issued by Pro Pakatan Harapan secretariat chairperson Zanirun Baba and Kelab Penyokong Pakatan Harapan Malaysia (KPPHM) president Othman Ismail.

It was endorsed by the Sayangi Pakatan Harapan coalition, Kelab Penyokong Pakatan Harapan Malaysia, PasMa and Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia, among others.

Both Bersatu and PKR have confirmed that they are keen to negotiate with PAS to explore ways of collaborating in the upcoming general election. 

PAS have also expressed willingness to cooperate, but made it clear that they will not have ties with secularist DAP.
