Traders file for injunction against Bersih, red-shirts

Traders operating in central Kuala Lumpur have filed an application against Bersih and the red-shirts, believed to be over this Saturday's rallies by the two groups.

The application for an injunction to stop the rallies of the two bodies is believed to have been filed yesterday.

The trade organisations that filed the injunction are Masjid India Modern Malay Bazaar Traders Association, Medan Mara Business Premises Tenants Association and the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Street Traders and Hawkers Association.

The High Court in Kuala Lumpur is scheduled to hear the application at 4pm today.

Meanwhile, former co-chairperson of Bersih, Ambiga Sreenevasan, said that the application on the injuction was served to Bersih today.

Ambiga and Gurdial Singh will be the lawyers representing Bersih in this case and she will attend the court case at 4pm, together with the Bersih committe members.

According to Ambiga, the applicants named in the injuction are Persatuan Perniaga Bazaar Melayu Moden, Persatuan Penyewa Premis Perniagaan and Persatuan Peniaga dan Penjaja.

"The respondents named are Maria Chin, Bersih 2.0 Steering Commitee, Jamal bin Mohd Yunos and Gabungan NGO Gerakan Merah.

"They seeking an injunction to stop the rallies and the basic appeal is they will suffer losses if the rallies proceed," Ambiga said, adding that it was a civil suit.
