An angry crowd at the Umno general assembly forced TV3 to cancel a live show it was supposed to hold at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) lobby.
The crowd, who were watching Umno leaders wrap up the AGM on a screen at the lobby, started getting agitated when the audio was lowered midway through Wanita chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil's speech.
They started hecking the TV3 host and guests who had gotten on the stage.
“Do it somewhere else!” one of them shouted, while another told them to do their show later.
One of the men then told the women, who had a special floor sitting area in the lobby, to pack up and leave, an order to which some complied with.
Tensions almost reached boiling point when two water bottles were thrown at the stage as Shahrizat ended her speech.
It was then that the TV3 crew vacated the stage, to cheers from the crowd.
The TV3 crowd left the scene unharmed, and the stage was quickly cleared of props.
Things settled down quickly after that, and there were no further incidents as the spirited crowd listened to the remaining speeches by Umno vice-presidents Hishammuddin Hussein and Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, and their leader Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
