Umno Youth vice-chief Khairul Azwan Harun has rapped MCA president Liow Tiong Lai for seeking the return of seats loaned out by the latter's party.

"Asking for the return of these so-called 'loaned seats' is counter productive as the goal should always be 'what is always best for a BN victory'.

"I would suggest that Liow urgently seek an audience with the prime minister who is also BN chairman for his wisdom and advice," Azwan said in a statement yesterday.

He also said that it was a shame that a BN component party was asking for seats instead of telling voters about the dangers of "DAP's chauvinist narrative".

Liow on Saturday had said that MCA wanted to take back the seats it had loaned out during the 2013 general election.

At that time, MCA loaned out its seats at Wangsa Maju, Kuantan and Gelang Patah to Umno.

The three seats were subsequently lost to the opposition, with PKR MPs Tan Kee Kwong and Fuziah Salleh at Wangsa Maju and Kuantan respectively while DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang won the Gelang Patah seat.

Azwan and Liow had been trading barbs after the latter rebuked the Umno Youth vice-chief for saying that the Chinese community would be further alienated if they continued to support DAP.

Liow responded by telling Azwan not to point fingers.

Azwan in his statement yesterday stuck by his remarks, made at the close of the Umno Youth general assembly on Wednesday, saying it was meant to remind people about BN's spirit of inclusiveness.

"The focus of the speech also outlined the necessity for us to protect voters from DAP's divisive politics.

"Clearly Liow missed the message. He instead resorted to headline-grabbing reactions," he said.
