DAP has been urged to distance itself from firebrand Hew Kuan Yau, who is known as Superman, and ban him from opposition ceramah if it is sincere about ending racism.

Gerakan secretary-general Liang Teck Meng said Hew continued to speak at DAP-related ceramah despite claiming he would resign from the party in July this year.

He said Hew, who is not from Penang, still holds the position of curator for the Penang Asia Comic Cultural Museum, which is funded by the Penang state government.

"It is clear there is little difference whether he resigned or not as Hew is doing exactly what he was doing before his 'resignation'. It is just 'wayang' (charade) from DAP," he added in a media statement.

Apart from barring him from speaking at ceramah, Liang urged DAP to sack Hew from his curator post and refrain from any future contact with him.

"DAP should understand that having a person like Hew associated with DAP will only worsen race relations in this country.

"It is time for DAP to be responsible for the hatred and racism that their ceramah (speaker) has spewed all these years instead of blaming others or evading responsibility with flimsy reasons," he added.

On the same note, Liang expressed regret that Hew's infamous "Melayu screw Melayu" video was shown at the Umno annual general assembly.

"Two wrongs does not make a right. Race harmony should be preserved at all cost.

"However, a greater danger is the amount of similar ace vitriol being spread by Hew over the years in his thousands of Chinese-based ceramah throughout Malaysia," he said.

Hew made the 'Melayu screw Melayu' remarks during the Sarawak state election, in an effort to convince Chinese voters to elect Malay DAP candidate Abdul Aziz Isa.

However, Hew defended his remarks, saying he would not ask Sarawakians to vote a Malay representative if he was racist.

Following this, DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang described Hew's comments as "vulgar and insensitive", but denied it was racist.

He argued that racist statements were against DAP's principles, and Hew would have used the same analogy regardless of race.

In July, Hew announced his resignation from DAP with immediate effect after brickbats were thrown his way over his Facebook post that the South China Sea belongs to China.

"For the big picture of DAP, I have decided to leave the party from today," he said.

Hew admitted that he had authored the Facebook post which criticised the international tribunal decision renouncing Bejing's claim as anti-communist and anti-China.
