Klang MP Charles Santiago is the latest to be called in by police in their investigation into the Nov 19 Bersih rally.

Santiago was summoned to the Sentul district police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, where he gave a witness statement.

In the police letter sent to him, the police said they were carrying out investigations in the vicinity of the Bangsar LRT station under the Penal Code and the Peaceful Assembly Act, based on a police report filed.

The letter said Santiago was believed to be able to assist in police investigations.

However, the DAP lawmaker said when he arrived for questioning, he was told there was no police report against him.

"Instead they were asking me to give them information. They were asking me to confirm if I was in Bangsar, whether I made any speeches and if I could identify some people.

"I told them my speech was about the importance of free and fair elections.

"I also told them I'm not familiar with the people (they wanted me to identify)," Santiago told Malaysiakini.

He suspects that based on the line of questioning, police may be looking to call in more people for questioning.

Police have questioned at least nine Pakatan Harapan leaders in connection with the Bersih rally.
