Police urge public not to speculate on the shooting case in Penang recently, saying it is an isolated incident.

The bodyguard of a Datuk who gunned down his boss and two others in Penang last week had allegedly heard “voices” asking to take out his pistol and shoot.

The Sun claimed the 37-year-old suspect told this to investigators.

Upon regaining his composure, the report quoting sources claimed the man was shocked to learn he had killed his employer Ong Teik Kwong and two others.

Meanwhile, police have urged the people to stop speculating on last Thursday's shooting incident at the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway, which also injured five others.

State police chief Abdul Ghafar Rajab told Bernama the shooting was an isolated incident triggered by a mentally unstable person.

"So, don’t link the shooting to gang activity,” he added.

Abdul Ghafar also denied the police had confirmed Ong's purported link to any gang activity as reported.

“The reports are misleading. We never confirmed Ong's link to any gang. The public has to understand there are certain things that the police cannot release for security reasons,” he said.

Abdul Ghafar also said the police were not involved in vetting those who were selected to be conferred the title Datuk, except for its own officers.

Following the killing of Ong, a businessman and club owner who was also known as Datuk M (M for 'muda' or young), many had asked how Ong could have landed the title following his alleged past criminal records.
