Are 1MDB deals with China digging a hole to cover a hole?

YOURSAY | ‘How long can this cover-up last? After China, there will be no more loans to get.’

What else are you waiting for, Najib?

6th Generation Immigrant: Who says Malaysia is backward and unintelligent? Through our favourite sovereign vehicle 1MDB, we have been able to find many loopholes in the monetary systems of some of the world's most advanced countries.

We have come up with the most subtle form of expansionist colonisation exercise, with many countries being overpowered, while our Malaysian Official 1 (MO1) remains totally unscathed.

Now our leader is targeting China, the largest economy in the world. These events shall be recorded in the annals of international history.

Kingfisher: Increasingly, a strong suspicion, if not an absolute conviction, is being whispered and talked about that the present president of Umno and prime minister of this country is considered the most negatively consequential leader of the nation to date in its brief post-independence history. This is unfortunate for the person and the country he now leads.

There should be an imminent resolution, even if this requires the nation to have an early election. Many would consider the present state of socio-economic unease unsustainable, even in the mid-term.

Jaguh: 1MDB borrowed from banks, failed; went to international funders like Abu Dhabi’s International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC), failed again; and now has allegedly gone to China to pay back earlier loans.

How long can this cover-up last? After China, there will be no one we can borrow money from.

Bill Price: Why does everyone assume that US president-elect Donald Trump will intercede in MO1's favour? To me, it seems even more likely that Trump will pursue this issue with abandon.

For him to step in and interfere with the Justice Department (DOJ) process in any way would be most unusual.

Malaysia4All: Where are the red-shirts when we need them? Najib is now allegedly selling Malaysian assets to China and yet the ‘ketuanan Melayu’ types are nowhere to be seen (or heard).

Anonymous 539281478077880: "Better tell the truth and shame the devil," as the saying goes. Many had expected this to happen as China is not a generous country to give away cash to salvage the "sitting government of their wrongdoings".

They are no better than the ‘Ah Longs’ in this country. Nothing comes free. Looks like we have a noose around our necks.

Drngsc: Has it not dawned on Umno cronies that 99 percent of what was reported by the foreign press has been proven right and 99 percent of what Umno has told us were shown to be false and a poor attempt at denial?

Yes, the noose is tightening. We will get you, sooner or later. You can run, but will have no place to hide.

SAM98: Writer Stephen Ng, is there something wrong with you? Why would Malaysians want anything to do with BN after so many wasted years when we could have been a fully-developed nation.

Ashamed of the current state of our country, we should collectively consider a future without BN and especially the allegedly massively corrupt Umno.

Hornbills: We have observed this for quite some time - digging a hole to cover a hole, endlessly. The country is in a jam, and we cannot get out of it because MO1 refuses to quit.

Vijay47: In view of Najib's modesty and low-key presence, not many people are aware that he is an expert in international relations, earning his wings recently in relation to Myanmar, and a master in cross-border financial transactions.

Thus, the 1MDB arrangements with China are nothing to be alarmed about. Just as that vast amount from Arabia was a donation, the even greater sum from China is simply an early Chinese New Year ang pow.

Economist: Loss of confidence due to 1MDB dragging ringgit down

Chokstone: Of course, the most effective way to save the country is the resignation of the kleptocrat, but there is no way for a kleptocrat to surrender himself.

More so, when he is still supported by the bunch of BN ‘dedak’ (animal feed) leaders. They won't surrender their master to you as long as they can still cling on to power and continue to allegedly plunder the public coffers.

This regime's reputation has already been destroyed, they have nothing to lose any more. In order to save themselves, this kleptocracy would resort to playing the racial and religious cards for political gain, even though they know it will destroy the nation.

Now, only people's power and political awareness can save our beloved nation from disaster.

RM2.6 Billion Turkey Haram: Economist Jomo Kwame Sundaram, would you keep money in a house of thieves? Even an idiot would not do it.

Similarly, would an investor invest in a country run by kleptocrats? He must be insane to do it.

Drngsc: Jomo, you have not told the whole story. The severe loss of confidence is due to:

1. The 1MDB fiasco, with all the alleged theft and cheating and money-laundering.

2. The refusal by MO1 to admit wrong and right the wrong.

3. The whole Umno party's denial that any wrongdoing even existed.

Of course, MO1 is to blame, but the rest of Umno are not faultless either. They all must share the blame for the plunge in confidence.

Anonymous_1388029052: I think if we ask 10 business people on the street, "What is one way to restore confidence in the ringgit?", I believe at least eight will answer, "The PM should step down."

Oscar Kilo: The elephant is in the room and the naked emperor thinks he is clothed.
