Is PAS leveraging to extract concessions from both sides?

YOURSAY | ‘With no political philosophy, there can be no grounds for cooperation.’

The dysfunctionality of the opposition

Headhunter: Malaysians are so battle-fatigued, politically speaking that is. Nothing seems to change when change is something that the country really needs.

BN is still the one-trick pony playing their fear-mongering trick using religion and race as their weapon of mass destruction, supported by their looted massive war chest.

As for the opposition, they played right into the hand of Umno through their enemy from within, which is none other than PAS who are more intent to go to heaven come-what-may than playing honest politics by showing genuine care for the welfare of the people here on earth.

At the end of the day, I see a self-destructive opposition remaining at status quo. In other words, a waste of another five years in the making. Sigh...

Existential Turd: In an electoral system, those who decide the outcome of the election are often not the majority, but the swing voters.

PAS is playing the swing vote role. Another swing vote bank is the rural Malays who rely on periodic subsidies for survival. Together they could mean the difference between 49 percent and 51 percent. With alleged gerrymandering, the bar to form government is even lowered on the BN side.

PAS is leveraging on a swing role to extract concessions from both sides. Nik Aziz Nik Mat was the last leader who gave PAS a modicum of respect. They either don't care or are incompetent about good governance, justice or development.

Just look at the state of the Orang Asli in Kelantan, their despising Anwar Ibrahim based on fake and trumped-up charges, their silence on mega-corruption in the government, their support for gender-biased policies and the general lack of development in Kelantan.

Their only concern is hudud. They will willingly follow and work with whomever can promise them implementation of hudud even if they are allegedly corrupt and totally lack integrity.

You can't really blame the people for being cynical. The cynicism of Umno and PAS was on display in its full glory when they exploited the Rohingya issue.

Clearwater: I don't like it but the writer is correct in that the dream of changing government is but a dream. With the opposition in such disarray, a change of government could even turn into a nightmare.

The Analyser: Author Thomas More knew the answer in 1516. Asians have yet to learn that they are the authors of their own destruction.

For any organisation to have any substance, it must have a reason for existing. For a political party that reason is usually based on an economic or a social theory. No such concept exists in Malaysia. The democratic socialism of the DAP is non-existent. PAS and Amanah are based on religion. BN, PKR and Bersatu are based on race and religion.

With no political philosophy, there can be no unity, there can be no direction and there can be no grounds for cooperation. Such a simple concept has eluded the individuals of Malaysian politics.

Just a Malaysian: I still hold to the belief that Malaysians of all races will have to go through a very painful economic crisis.

We have to detox ourselves from the poison of race and religion by going through a severe economic crash. After that maybe a new Malaysia will emerge.

Minister denies external influence in action against UM students

RCZ: Higher Education Minister Idris Jusoh has made two very strange and contradictory statements. If a student "can say anything, it is a free country. Since you are free, you can mention anything you want to mention", then why were they punished?

The second thing is why is the ministry allowing its institutes of higher learning to stifle thoughts and free speech? Isn't the ministry condoning the universities’ actions? If not, then put a stop to this, Mr Minister.

Tony Soprano: "It's a free country." Oh, that's a good one.

Yawkwai: Idris, if Universiti Malaya (UM) can make decisions without consulting you, then Malaysia does not need a higher education minister.

Anonymous 2413381470634342: The university students are not stupid, you must allow them to think outside the box.

So, you want all university students to kowtow to you despite the many wrongdoings of the country’s leaders? Is this how leaders are created?

Students must rise up to the occasion whenever there is wrongdoing in society, in the university or anywhere else, such as if the Rohingya Muslims are being mistreated.

University heads have lost their thinking brains because all of them ‘cari makan’.

The Analyser: The role of a university is to educate. It has no jurisdiction outside the boundaries of the campus.

But as I pointed out previously, UM is simply maintaining the standards common across Malaysian society - the repression of youth.

Anonymous Hotplate: It's okay, Idris, do whatever you want because students know you won't last long. All this nonsense has to come to an end one fine day. Wait and see.

Anonymous_3f49: Aren't we tired of listening to this and other ministers making childish denials?

Whatsup: Lies and denials, among other shames, are hallmarks of these lesser men and their party.

Kangkung: Idris, why was action taken against Anis Syafiqah Md Yusof when she had only protested against a fictitious person?

Or are you telling us that Malaysian Official 1 (MO1) is the infamous kleptocrat who has allegedly stolen billions from the country?
