Wanita MCA has urged Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng to cease displaying his “arrogance” and respect the media, instead of accusing them of not according him with enough coverage.

Its chief Heng Seai Kie in a statement today said Lim’s latest claims against Sin Chew Daily was ironic, pointing out that it was well known how many Chinese-language media had indirectly contributed towards the then Pakatan Rakyat and DAP’s success during the 2008 and 2013 general elections.

“The Penang Chief Minister must understand that there is a fine difference between dignity and arrogance. He should comprehend the media’s role to report on the news and current issues and not be personality or icon driven.

“In short, Lim Guan Eng should learn that the media should be granted respect for their freedom, ethics and professionalism,” she said.

Heng said Lim’s “innate arrogance” has also grossly misrepresented the Chinese community's sense of humility.

“While some claim that there are qualities within Guan Eng that possibly might be admired, however, his immaturity renders him ineligible to be a true leader of the Malaysian Chinese community or for multiracial Malaysians for that matter,” she stressed.

“He has self-exposed himself to be a combative rebel, but lacks qualities and values as a true leader,” she further claimed.

Last week, Sin Chew Daily had reportedly responded to a series of complaints by Lim’s aide over their coverage, describing the views as unreasonable and baseless.

The daily also said it was not up to the Chief Minister’s Office to dictate their editorial decisions and any ‘anti-Lim’ insinuations made were absurd and childish.

Lim had last month ticked off Sin Chew Daily for supposedly not taking his Budget 2017 announcement seriously.

At the time, he had complained that the daily gave other issues more prominence and speculated that this might be because such reports did not favour his government.
