Politicians from Umno and DAP tore into the Iskandar Region Development Authority (IRDA) following a flash flood in Johor Baru yesterday.

Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan Mohamed, who is also Pulai MP, said IRDA's role in the state capital's infrastructure must be reviewed.

"Sungai Segget floods again and buries Johor Baru city in water. IRDA guaranteed me in 2015 that the RM200 million Segget project would avoid floods. It's worse now.

"IRDA role must be reviewed. Management too comfortable and lacks project management skills. Better let MBJB implement future projects," Nur Jazlan said in a series of tweets last night.

IRDA is in charge of a project to rejuvenate Sungai Segget which flows along Jalan Wong Ah Fook in downtown Johor Baru.

Nur Jazlan said the authority had assured that the project would be completed on Jan 1.

As such, he said it was unfair to blame the Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) for flooding in the city yesterday, which he pinned on IRDA.

Johor DAP chief Liew Chin Tong (photo) echoed Nur Jazlan's frustrations, and called on the Johor government to sack IRDA from the Sungai Segget project.

"Fine IRDA if an investigation confirms negligence and irresponsible acts," Liew added.

However, while the Kluang MP agreed with Nur Jazlan, he noted that the BN-led government is responsible for both the running of Johor, MBJB, and IRDA.

IRDA is co-chaired by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and Johor Menteri Besar Khaled Nordin.

"There should be a limit to left hand blaming right hand. Someone must say 'the bucks stop here' and make an immediate and firm decision.

"That person is the menteri besar of Johor," Liew said.
