Newly-minted Felda chairperson Shahrir Samad has dismissed a call for him to report incidents of leakages in that government agency to the appropriate authorities.

He said critics often behaved in a "childish" manner by issuing challenges to government officials to do certain things.

"We are not waiting for challenges from any personality to do our job... They always like to challenge.

"(For example, critics once said:) 'If (the report) is not true, sue The Wall Street Journal'... (This is) childish. It will never end," he told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

Shahrir said Felda had already been audited by the National Audit Department and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) would have followed up on any complaints.

"Everybody wants to issue challenges on this and that. They only talk," said Shahrir.

"A lot of people are doing their own work. Those who are responsible to perform their responsibilities, the auditor-general, they have done it.

"After that there have been follow-ups. It's an ongoing (process)," he added.

Earlier today, head of National Oversight & Whistleblowers (NOW) Akmal Nasir challenged Shahrir to lodge reports with the police and the MACC over the latter's claim that there were leakages in Felda.

Shahrir had recently claimed that there were leakages in Felda, specifically in its investment arm Felda Investment Corporation Sdn Bhd (FIC).

He had also instructed all FIC board members to resign in order to facilitate restructuring of the company.

FIC is a subsidiary of Felda tasked with engaging in non-plantation related ventures.

As BN Backbenchers Club chairperson, Shahrir earlier witnessed the signing ceremony between representatives from Mahasiswa Turun Parlimen (Mantap) - BN's internship programme - and Indienomics, a local entrepreneurship movement comprising over 30 companies.

The agreement signed was to offer more partnership opportunities for students and graduates, following their two months attachment with a BN parliamentarian.

Also present were Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Razali Ibrahim and Matrade chairperson Noraini Ahmad.
