Enhancing interracial harmony among youths' hopes for TN50

Enhancing interracial harmony and expanding employment opportunities are among the expectations placed by youths on the government in shaping the 2050 National Transformation (TN50) policy.

Most of the young people Bernama met today were excited to bring their ideas and views to help the government map out the national policy for the next 30 years after 2020.

Sharifah Nur Alia Syed Aiman, 23, said jobs nowadays are very limited due to the increasing number of graduates who still have not had the opportunity to obtain employment.

"I will also be graduating soon and the limited employment opportunities is troubling me.

"Our hope (graduates) on graduating is to be promised a job equivalent to our qualifications," she said.

Ishan Siva Ramanathan, 17, also hoped racial harmony and goodwill, particularly among young people in the country continues to be strengthened under the new policy.

TN50, envisioned by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak will be initiated with the involvement of young people through national discourses as decided by the Cabinet and handled by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Najib Abdul Razak tonight launched the National Transformation 2050 (TN50) with a dialogue session held with youths as the target group, who provided input on their aspirations for the next 30 years.

In the session held at Dewan Tunku Chancellor, Universiti Malaya (UM), the prime minister held engaging dialogues with youth from diverse backgrounds, from all over the country.

Najib said this was the best time to chart the country's course for another 30 years, after being developed with the New Economic Policy (NEP) for 30 years, and Vision 2020 for the same time frame.

"In the next 30 years, the country will change radically. It is high time we take a peep into the future, beginning with this discourse, so that we can build our future together," he said during his speech before the dialogue session broadcast live on several local television stations beginning at 9pm.

Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, as well as other Cabinet ministers and over 500 youths, to seek input for the next national policy.

TN50, which was envisaged by Najib, is a futuristic policy to chart the direction the country is heading in the next 30 years after 2020.

The prime minister said input from all the youths would be gathered with other segments to be held later, including segments on women, corporate, cultural, religious scholars and academics.

"All the input will be collected under one umbrella, namely TN50... I want this new vision to come from the people, it will give (them) a sense of ownership and a sense of belonging, (so) we want to hear your view," he said.

According to him, a leader must be a good listener.

"And I am a good listener. Today I want to hear the voice of the people, the voice of the young generation and the aspirations of the young people, the aspirations of the young people because 2050 belongs to you," he said.
