Salleh, you can only fight fake news with facts and figures

Minister raps report implicating Rosmah, cites perils of fake news

NNFC: I notice denials are the norm of the current government. This is of no use; in fact, it creates more scepticism. I would think they should

1. Tell the truth and nothing but the truth.

2. Show proof.

Anonymous #40538199: You can only fight fake news with facts and figures. Don't let Malaysian Official 1 (MO1) and the alleged first lady of Malaysia (Flom) suffer, please declassify the auditor-general’s report on 1MDB.

Vijay47: Minister Salleh Said Keruak seems to be falling in love with Malaysiakini - Steven Gan, if you're not too careful, somebody may soon make you a Datuk, or worse, a Datuk Seri.

So tell me, good minister, does your budding romance make Malaysiakini the good guys or the heavies, can they now be believed or not? Perhaps they are credible if they do a mainstream media and come out with glowing tributes on Umno and say nary a word about 1MDB and stout wenches associated with it.

Which reminds me and sorry to rain on your parade, Salleh, but Malaysiakini merely suggested that the other signatory could be Jasmine Loo, they did not take out a statutory declaration (SD) stating that it was that smart cookie who has apparently flown the coop, rendering that poor inspector-general of police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar unable to nab her just as he has failed in apprehending that child-kidnapper. Stay tuned, folks, details at 7.

Gggg: So now Malaysiakini is telling the truth? Will the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) reward them now?

Martha: If this is not true why then is prime minister’s wife Rosmah Mansor not taking any action against Sarawak Report? Is this not slanderous enough? Her reputation is at stake more so since she is the wife of the PM.

Hornbill: I congratulate the minister for quickly coming to the defence of Rosmah. ‘Ever ready’ is how best to describe his prompt proactive action. He's been spokesperson for the first family of Putrajaya even before being appointed a minister. Way to go, Sir.

Antigila: Presumptions and assumptions are made because Malaysia allegedly hides the truth. Come clean if you want to stop assumptions. If you want to hide the truth, then live with the assumptions made.

Goldee: Why are our authorities not pursuing and taking action to recover the money allegedly stolen by ‘Ali Baba and his 40 thieves’. The evidence in the Singapore court cases was so crystal clear that 1MDB money was allegedly siphoned off and stolen. But our government was silent and treat it as if they are not related to Malaysia.

Anonymous_1417051064: Just because you say it's wrong means it's wrong, is it? You dare not even take action against those reports that have been proven correct, what dignity do you have to even comment on it?

Tok Jangut: How come I cannot view Sarawak Report, but the minister can?

The ‘true’ legacy of Adenan Satem

Headhunter: A well-written piece and astute observation. It's true that what transpired had more to do with Adenan Satem's own personal inspiration and belief rather than the BN policy. In fact, most of the support he enjoyed came from the people of all races and political leaning than from his own BN cabinet.

Even the opposition was praising him for his stand. His own party leaders only reacted when they saw that Adenan was winning adulation from the people and rode on his coattails. The question now is whether new Chief Minister Abang Johari Openg can fill his shoes or will he kowtow to the Malayan warlords?

Anonymous 2418081463042685: Adenan has done a lot of good for Sarawak but he will also be remembered as a man who supported an allegedly kleptocratic government. He and the BN cabinet have badly let down the 30 million rakyat of Malaysia.

Anticonmen: Did he uplift the rural folk from poverty? Did he provide democratic space to others to lead similar to also what he enjoyed? Did he bring about development for everyone?

As an elected representative, a leader's greatness is measured by what he did for others and how well he managed their resources for the benefit of everyone by whom he was elected.

The Analyser: One of the great problems with Malaysians is that they never say what they really mean so that some people go through their whole lives thinking they are right and perfect when the reality is far removed from their delusions.

Tanjong Datu by-election fixed for Feb 18

Mafeeah: Wouldn't the same logic that the EC applies to the now vacant Sungai Air Tawar seat in Selangor, also apply in the Sarawak by-election, that it purportedly does not alter the strength of the majority party?

Léon Moch: Mafeeah, it doesn't apply to Sarawak because it has a different timing for state elections.

This is to say that, for the other case in peninsular Malaysia, the general rule is that if the death of an assemblyperson/MP occurs on a such a date which is less than the prescribed number of months from the last date on which the general elections must be held, then a by-election need not be carried out, unless the death causes an alteration in the strength of the majority party (for example, where there is a one or two seat majority situation).

In the case of Sarawak, the last date on which its state elections must be held exceeds the prescribed number of months. As such, a by-election must be held.

Fairplayer: Looks like GE14 is round the corner, right?
