Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad must repent for his actions and make good on all the wrongs he had committed against PAS in the past, and disown all links with DAP, if he wanted to court the Islamic party.

PAS research director Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki said in a statement that even though Mahathir was one of those most responsible for victimising the Islamic party during the 1977 Kelantan emergency declaration, Memali tragedy, revocation of oil subsidy and others, he believed redemption was still possible for the former premier.

"PAS is prepared to forgive anyone who is willing to make right past wrongs and champion the very people victimised by their previous actions," he said.

But while PAS was prepared to accept a repentant Mahathir, Zuhdi reiterated the party's belief that there was no redemption for DAP.

Zuhdi said PAS had always tried to call for a return to governance by the Quran and Sunnah, which was the cure to all of Malaysia's ills, but noted that parties like DAP, MCA and Gerakan's refusal to accept Islamic governance continued to be a stumbling block to reforms that would really save Malaysia.
