Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali's popularity in the state has jumped to 62 percent, as revealed in a recent survey conducted by Selangor government-linked think tank Institut Darul Ehsan (IDE).

This was compared to his popularity in an August 2016 survey, which stood at 58 percent.

"This increase is a positive sign about his leadership in Selangor for the upcoming general election," IDE deputy chairperson Mohammad Redzuan Othman said in a statement today.

It also showed that Azmin's proactive attitude in solving the rakyat's issues was very effective, he said.

The survey, titled "Selangor Rakyat's Perception Survey 2017", showed that support for Pakatan Harapan in Selangor appeared to be strong and he did not expect there to be much problems in maintaining the current state government, he said.

At the same time, Redzuan added, support for BN in Selangor was declining and the rakyat seemed to be dissatisfied with issues such as GST, rising cost of living, abuse of power and corruption.

The survey included questions on various issues, he said, such as multi-cornered fights in the election, influence of social media, the rakyat's perception towards political parties, current issues, the performance of local councils and so on.

The survey was conducted between Feb 8 and Feb 13, involving 56 Selangor assemblypersons and 2,018 respondents in total, he said.

The respondents included those from various races such as Malays, Chinese and Indians as well as those from various work backgrounds, places of residences, level of education and so on.
