Kit Siang volunteers in forex probe

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Azalina Othman Said said DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang should be the first to support the task force to probe Bank Negara's forex losses as he had been vocal on the matter.

Lim responded by volunteering to join the investigation on condition the task force also looks into the Bumiputra Malaysia Finance (BMF) and 1MDB scandals.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's stepson Riza Aziz is reportedly contesting the US Department of Justice's attempt to seize his assets that were allegedly purchased using 1MDB-linked funds.

Hadi aims 200k turnout at Act 355 rally

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said he expected a turnout of 200,000 people at the Act 355 rally today.

Meanwhile, MCA secretary-general Ong Ka Chuan said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom's planned attendance at the Act 355 rally is not sanctioned by BN or the cabinet, and therefore is done in his personal capacity.

Abdul Hadi also called on PAS' Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar to quit the party if he cannot toe the line in PAS.

Still no PAS-Bersatu deal

Abdul Hadi reiterated that PAS would not work with parties that have ties with DAP and Parti Amanah Negara.

The PAS central committee failed to reach a decision on whether to cooperate with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.

Selangor PAS chief Iskandar Samad said he was confident PAS would not sever ties with PKR despite Abdul Hadi's stance.

A Selangor-sponsored poll found PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim and Abdul Hadi's popularity neck-and-neck among Malay voters in the state, but DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang only garnered one percent.

The survey also found Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to be highly unpopular among Selangor voters.

Four elected representatives who quit DAP said they would not aid BN against their former party.

Yayasan Pembangunan Ekonomi Islam Malaysia (Yapeim) said it had yet to receive a summons from Yayasan Pembangunan Anak Yatim/Miskin founding members who accused the former of mismanagement.

The Johor government has clarified that the monthly wakaf collection from civil servants in the state, including those who are non-Muslims, would be on a voluntary basis.

Looking ahead

The Act 355 rally will take place at Padang Merbok in Kuala Lumpur from 2pm to 11pm. A counter-rally will also be held at Taman Jaya from 3pm onwards.

Today is also decision day for the Tanjong Datu by-election in Sarawak, the state seat which was left vacant following the death of former chief minister Adenan Satem.
