The National Union of Flight Attendants Malaysia called on authorities to act against airlines that have yet to pay Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) and Social Security Organisation (Socso) contributions to former employees.

"Many workers who were retrenched have yet to receive their EPF contributions.

"More than 500 workers at a troubled airline are facing this problem but the authorities failed to take stern action despite complaints," said Nufam in a statement last night.

The union said it has presented evidence that the company made EPF and Socso deduction from the employees' salaries but they were never credited to their EPF and Socso accounts.

It estimated the sum for 2016 amounted to around RM1 million.

"Where has the money which was deducted by the employers gone to?" it asked.

It said this issue is being faced by employees at two airlines and a charter service.

"The union wants assurance from the authorities that immediate action will be taken against companies that fail to make the contributions.

"The authorities can initiate legal action against the irresponsible companies," it said.
