A DAP assemblyperson has submitted an emergency motion to the Johor Legislature, urging the formation of a select committee to monitor the ongoing graft probe involving the abuses linked to real estate in the state.

The motion was submitted under Standing Order 30 (2) of the state legislature by Pekan Nenas assemblyperson Yeo Tung Siong and endorsed by Penggaram assemblyperson Gan Peck Cheng.

Yeo stated that the matter was urgent and should be given priority in the upcoming Johor assembly sitting on March 9 to repair the credibility of the state government and prevent further leakages.

This, the elected representative, argued, is as the alleged abuse of power and graft being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), amounts to treason against the state.

He said that the involvement of the son and asssistant to a state executive council member and the Land and Minerals Department has impacted on the state's and menteri besar's image.

"Instead of passively awaiting the MACC investigations, the Johor government should take the initiative to conduct an internal investigations to provide information to the anti-graft body and restore the credibility and reputation of the state, and look into ways to stop further leakages," said Yeo.

Other than an internal investigation, the motion urged a select committee headed by an opposition member to monitor the matter and submit a report to the state legislature.

On Feb 25, MACC seized 21 luxury cars, five high performance bikes and RM500,000 in cash, and froze 45 accounts with over RM15.5 million in them, in a case involving bribery and abuses linked to real-estate in Johor.

Six individuals, aged between 25 and 50, were also arrested with regard to the case in coordinated arrests conducted by the commission at about 8.30am, yesterday.

Those arrested included the son and special officer to a senior state government official, two developers, a lawyer and a civilian believed to be involved in the case.
