‘Mules’ get death while masterminds have diplomatic immunity?

YOURSAY | ‘We must abolish the death sentence. These two women are mere pawns in a power game.’

Indonesian, Vietnamese charged with Jong-nam's murder

CQ Muar: It has been reported that these two murder suspects were allegedly duped into carrying out the act. Sources claimed they were paid a paltry sum of RM400 to administer the deadly substance.

I pray that the truth will prevail and the facts established. If those found guilty of the Kim Jong-nam murder are destined to be sentenced to the death penalty, it is hoped there will be a retrial of the gruesome murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu.

If this country is to show the world Malaysia is indeed just and respected, we hope there will be no double-standard in the administrating of the law.

The Mongolian's cruel and inhumane end deserves to be established, and those behind the monstrous act should be exposed and duly punished; only then justice could be seen to be done.

P Dev Anand Pillai: Indeed if these two women were really duped, then they are innocent. A charge under Section 302 must be coupled with intention (mens reas) to commit the act.

The charge should be lowered to one of involuntary manslaughter or culpable homicide not amounting to murder (Section 304 (i) of the Penal Code).

Let us see how the trial goes, as the whole world would be interested to know why and how these two young women got involved in this assassination.

Kangkung: The question is - will the ‘mules’ get the death penalty while the masterminds have diplomatic immunity?

Worldly Wise: This has become an international affair. We must abolish the death sentence (as promised by the government). These two women who were caught are mere pawns in a power game. Death sentences are inhumane.

They are not a deterrent because the sentences cast doubts on the reasonableness of the legal and judicial operation.

2 Tim 1:7: If there is ample proof to charge the duo with murder, then surely there must be massively more evidence to convict Malaysian Official 1 (MO1) on the charge of embezzling 1MDB funds.

Or has the Saudi royalty made everything kosher?

Pisasu 7: It seems to be very easy to catch ‘ikan bilis’ (small fries) and charge them, while all the sharks are dancing in the oceans...

Veteran Umno leader admits to role in N Korean spy company

Dont Just Talk: What an excuse given by former Umno secretary-general Mustapha Yaakub that he was unaware that the United Nations has sanctioned the rogue nation North Korea, and in the process, sold military communication equipment to the country.

Was it a legitimate oversight or he had conveniently forgotten? What a laughable excuse.

Vijay47: Umno again, and Mustapha Ya'akub, a true product of its mould - involved in all manner of possibly illegal shenanigans and transactions and as the music starts to play, claims "I didn't know."

This defence was of course refined by The Master of Fables in his famous "I do not know how millions of ringgit ended up in my personal bank account."

Let us in a burst of charity accept that Mustapha did not know. How about that inspector-general of police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar? Weren’t he and his Special Branch keeping tabs on the North Korean embassy and its dealings, especially with Malaysians? Maybe Khalid was busy looking for child-kidnappers and missing pastors, perhaps?

But Mustapha, you did not cease and desist, you switched companies and continued dealing with the North Koreans till even as recently as last year. What did you then deal in, pencils?

We wonder what other hidden tricks Malaysians and this most-favoured no-need-visas country are up to?

Kingfisher: The former Umno secretary-general may have already placed his nation in an uncomfortable and perhaps also a disadvantaged position in respect to its reputation within the UN’s community of nations.

One is left wondering if this unwise adventurous business initiatives of a former Umno leader is not a reflection of something inherently unhealthy and even brazen as it pertains to the pursuit of money and wealth by those like him in positions of influence and leadership.

Ferdtan: If Mustapha was not from Umno, especially someone who had held a top position of party secretary-general and who was from the so-called 'Chinese-DAP', will he be still be talking to us right now?

I guess there would be massive demonstrations from Umno Youth members hitting out at him as a communist spy. The police would waste no time to arrest him.

Does the cliche ‘ignorance of the law is no excuse’ apply here? So if the police were serious enough to dig further into the said company that Mustapha was involved in as a partner/director, many laws most probably may have been broken, such as smuggling of illegal goods and money-laundering?

James_3392: In the world of Umno, this is seemingly called a successful business enterprise. But for others, it is treason. Just see how they turn corruption to donation?

Thickskin: Would anyone set up a company with two partners who are only known as ‘Madam Ryang’ and ‘Madam Pyon’?

No sane businessman will go into partnership with two women from North Korea who are so secretive that they only give their family name and nothing else. I would love to see the partnership agreement.

Sleepy: What is troubling is the dealing in military equipment and the involvement of a political party and maybe the government. Someone has rightly commented that it is like "closing the stable door after the horses have bolted".

Wandering Star: Malaysians are aware now why North Korea was accorded special treatment. As sure as the sun will rise from the East, Umno members would seemingly be involved in ‘dubious deals’.

Lajib: A cartoonist is repeatedly charged. But those conspiring with communists are not held under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma)? Is this ‘undang-undang’ or ‘udang-udang’?
