YOURSAY | ‘If the RM2.6b was indeed a gift from the Saudi royal family, he would have stated so…’

Nazri: King Salman won't come to M'sia if RM2.6b 'shady'

Odin Tajué: Tourism and Culture Minister Nazri Abdul Aziz, please read the following slowly and carefully, and digest them:

1) Malaysia is not the only country on Saudi King Salman Abdulaziz Al Saud’s list of destinations;

2) Saudi Arabia’s economy is in a bad shape. News has it that they are even getting rid of expatriates, and are trying to make do with whatever suitable human resources they have;

3) King Salman is doing his visiting to beg for money; and

4) King Salman does not care about the RM2.6 billion. He does not because it did not come from the Saudi royal family or government. It is Malaysia’s internal affairs and, therefore, none of his business.

Which brings us to the last but not the least important point. And that is, King Salman must be aware of the alleged thefts from 1MDB, the investigations carried out in various jurisdictions regarding the alleged thievery, the legal actions taken by the various authorities in a number of countries against some of the culprits, and that MO1 (Malaysian Official 1) was not only being implicated but intimated to be the mastermind.

We can safely assume that he has not eaten any ‘animal feed’ and, therefore, has not become stupid. If the RM2.6 billion was indeed a gift from the Saudi royal family or government, he would have stated so to clear MO1. It would have been a very, very easy thing for him to do. But he has not.

Therefore, the RM2.6 billion was not a gift from the Saudi royal family or government. And therefore, MO1 is still a suspect. Is all that clear to you, Nazri?

Versey: I beg to differ from Nazri, who said that "the monarch would not have come to Malaysia if there was anything ‘shady’ with the RM2.6 billion donation to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak".

Firstly, the RM2.6 billion is not a donation from the monarch, so there's no reason for King Salman to feel "uncomfortable" about somebody's hanky-panky dealings.

Secondly, it was a state visit, not a personal visit to Najib. King Salman is intelligent enough to see the benefits of keeping the diplomatic relationship between his country and Malaysia.

Thirdly, if the RM2.6 billion is truly a "donation", why wouldn't King Salmon confirm it publicly to clear his Muslim brethren's name, whom he must have adored and hold in high regard so much so that he gave a huge sum of money as a personal gift?

Nazri is supposedly to be a better learned minister than many of his cabinet colleagues as he's a lawyer by profession, so we can assume that he understands and knows the US Department of Justice (DOJ) law suits and other legal pursuits pertaining to the 1MDB scandal with evidence of money trails in other countries.

The thinking public would very much appreciate if he would stop insulting people's intelligence, as we certainly have enough from the associate professor of UiTM and we have no intention of complementing such fatuity.

Res Ipsa: Yes, Nazri, as a legally trained person, are you really in a position to doubt or brush aside the mountain of evidence including paper trails unveiled by the DOJ in relation to the origin of the so-called donation?

We do not recall King Salman during his four-day visit mentioning anything about the said donation. If MO1 was indeed in the clear, he could have done himself a big favour by asking the Saudi king to confirm or at least acknowledge the donation storyline.

The irresistible conclusion having regard to all factors is that MO1 tried his level best, including taking selfies with the monarch, but when it came to the million, sorry, billion dollar question, MO1 was shunned.

Commentable: Recently, the Johor sultan criticised a certain minister for being "kurang bijak". Then came a certain professor for doing the same thing. Now we see yet another minister jumping into the "kurang bijak" wagon.

I have tried not to waste time commenting on stupid things which our politicians say or do, and the point is there are too many these days. I am utterly fed up with people using perverted logic to shore up support for the PM on issues like his innocence in the RM2.6 billion scandal.

I believe many Malaysians are just as fed up. So Nazri, by the token of your logic, then US President Barack Obama visited Malaysia too, so why didn't you say Obama would not have come to Malaysia if there was anything "shady" with the RM2.6 billion donation to the PM.

You didn't because you'd know such a statement would be too far-fetched, right? You know what? If I were you, I'd tell the PM if you are innocent, why not publicly thank the Saudi king for his RM2.6 billion donation and see what the king says.

Wira: MO1 allegedly took the money from 1MDB as traced by the DOJ and supported by investigations in Singapore and Switzerland.

He gave a few million to some of the leaders in Umno, which some had even acknowledged. No wonder, we find smart ministers suddenly going retarded.

Rupert16: Yes, what a stupid nonsense from Nazri. Did King Salman confirmed that the RM2.6 billion was a donation from Saudi royal family as claimed by Najib?

Did King Salman also mention that the bulk of the money was returned to the royal family as claimed by attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali?

Telestai!: Nazri, we are not fools. The king has much bigger problems to worry about and we all know that. He is fighting several wars at his backyard and is dealing with a sagging economy due to depressed oil price.

Therefore, he is least concerned about how and why RM2.6 billion is allegedly stolen from Malaysians, never mind the "donation" story.

Vijay47: I am sure that somewhere in Umno HQ, there must be an Idiots' Roster, which lists out Umno leaders and the days on which they must emerge to make another of those ridiculous statements that set the nation laughing.

It looks like this week is the turn of Nazri and Hishammuddin Hussein, now that Salleh Said Keruak is on vacation. Nazri's syllogism, the arriving at a conclusion from two premises, must be recorded and saved at the British Museum, there being not enough room in Museum Negara.

In the face of his country's fading fortunes, King Salman's visit is in line with Najib's favoured pastime, snake oil sales. The good king has all the right buttons to push - religion, and the offer to increase scholarships no doubt in Islamic studies, the subject that Malaysia is most in need of at the moment.

Ib: It’s good to see netizens shouting back at the minister. There are tens of thousands of Malaysiakini readers, but only a handful of ministers who are court jesters to the emperor with no clothes.

Each time the jesters say something about RM2.6 billion issue, the noise should get louder not softer. Keep up the noise and the truth shall prevail.
