Police cripple '3-in-1 Coffee' drug syndicate

Police crippled a drug trafficking syndicate using 3-in-1 coffee sachets in their modus operandi during a raid in Taman Maluri, Cheras, last Friday.

Kuala Lumpur Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department chief ACP Guan Beng Kang said police had initially detained a 27-year-old suspect in a special drug bust at 2am before arresting another suspect and three women, two of whom are Vietnamese, at an apartment.

Guan said among others, police seized two plastic packets of what is believed to be syabu, weighing 16.48gm, after checking the sling bag of the first suspect.

"Police have also seized ecstasy powder weighing 1,259gm, 41 capsules containing ecstasy powder, 187 ecstasy pills, a plastic packet believed to be syabu, a plastic packet believed to be ketamine, 10 Eramin 5 pills and a clear packet of ganja after raiding the apartment.

"Their modus operandi was to crush the ecstasy pills using pestle and mortar and place the powder into 3-in-1 coffee sachets before selling each at between RM200 and RM300 at entertainment outlets in the federal capital," Guan told a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur Police headquarters yesterday.

He said police also seized a Desert Eagle 50 AE air pistol, drug-processing paraphernalia, cash and assets that belonged to the suspects and valued about RM90,000.

All the suspects have been remanded for seven days, from last Friday, to facilitate investigations under Section 117 of the Penal Code and Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Meanwhile, in a special drug bust around Gopeng, Perak, yesterday, police detained four suspects after uncovering a drug-processing lab that produced over 70kg of syabu.

Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said in the raid by the Bukit Aman Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (Sting), various drug-processing paraphernalia were also seized.

"Congratulations to STING @PDRMsia arresting four suspects, uncovered syabu-processing laboratory in Gopeng, Perak. Seize materials that can produce over 70kg of syabu #GoPDRMGo," Khalid said in his official Twitter.
