Pakatan Harapan will receive another membership application should the Registrar of Societies (ROS) approve the party being formed by former Umno man Khairuddin Abu Hassan and ex-senator Ezam Mohd Nor.

Upon obtaining the ROS approval, Khairuddin said the first step would be to become a Harapan member in order to attract support from the youths for the opposition coalition.

“God willing, with Allah's permission, if our party's registration is approved by the ROS, then Ezam and I, as our first step, will apply to be a member of the coalition,” he told Sinar Harian.

Khairuddin said he is pleased to see what is transpiring in the opposition at present, which is in line with Dr Mahathir Mohamad's call for a united front.

“This makes me very happy. It should have been done from the start,” he added, emphasising the need to continue negotiations with PAS as well.

Yesterday, Harapan's presidential council accepted Mahathir's Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) as a member and agreed to register the coalition.

Last week, Mahathir, who is Bersatu chairperson, recommended that the coalition changes its name as well as creates a new logo, symbol and election manifesto.

The former premier has repeatedly stressed on the importance for the opposition to make a united stand against BN.

Failing which, he said, these parties would not succeed in defeating the ruling coalition.

Mahathir had aattributed BN and its predecessor The Alliance's success in the polls since independence to the component parties setting aside their differences, and coming together for the aim of winning elections.
