DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang has posed, what he described as a simple and straightforward question, to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

At a press conference in Parliament today, the Gelang Patah MP wanted to know how many times Najib had met Malaysian-born businessman Jho Low, who is at the epicentre of the 1MDB scandal, after the last general election in 2013.

Demanding to know the “where and when” of these meetings, Lim also asked if Najib had met Low during his last official visit to China in November 2016.

Lim also wants to know what was discussed during these meetings, if they had taken place.

“And what did they discuss during their meetings after the 13th general election, when Low was totally rebuffed and repudiated by the people of Penang despite spending tens of millions of ringgit to topple Lim Guan Eng as Penang chief minister and the DAP-led Penang state government?” he said.

Lim also asked if Najib would dare to declare that he never met Low, whose real name is Low Taek Jho, after the last general election.

The veteran politician then trained his guns on Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Abdul Rahman Dahlan, with whom he is involved in an ongoing spat.

“Can Malaysians expect the BN director of strategic communications (Rahman) to ask the prime minister this question, instead of indulging in a demonisation campaign in pursuit of 'strategic lies'?” he further asked.

Lim has accused Umno and BN of launching a well orchestrated campaign to demonise him.

The Gelang Patah MP pointed to Utusan Malaysia employing a special logo with images of him, Anwar Ibrahim, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Azmin Ali, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and Mohamed Sabu, with the words “Asalkan Bukan Pakatan Kit Siang”.

The logo, he said, is to suggest that he is the “master” while the other leaders in the opposition coalition are his “stooges”.

“I want to make a public appeal to Utusan Malaysia and Umno leaders – don't insult or run down their own Malay race by suggesting that top Malay leaders, who had been prime ministers or deputy prime ministers, presidents or deputy presidents of Umno, are men of such low moral character and calibre as capable of becoming puppets or stooges after stepping down from their former positions,” Lim added.
