National shuttler Lee Chong Wei said will not retire from professional badminton yet, following his lost to China's Lin Dan during the men's singles final of the Malaysia Open.

"For now, it's not the time yet. Even before this, there have been many asking (me) about retirement but with every passing year I'm still motivated (to go on)," said Lee, 34, told reporters after the match.

Lee was defeated in straight sets, losing to Lin Dan 21-19 and 21-14 during the 55-minute game.

It was Lin Dan's first Malaysia Open title, which was hosted in Kuching, Sarawak.

Lee started off strongly in the first set but Lin Dan succeeded in clawing back to 19-19 before taking the closely-fought set.

The Malaysian shuttler got off to a rocky start in the second set but managed to equalise briefly at 5-5, but later trailed Lin Dan until the end.

Lee and Lin Dan exchanged jerseys after the match.

Weighing in on the match, Lee said he hoped both he and Lin Dan can continue playing.

"If we put our age together, we would be more than 70 years old but I hope that we can continue on with our careers and play more.

"It's not time to retire, keep it on," he said.

Lee admitted that his performance today was not the best.

"The clash in the first set was good but perhaps I lost confidence in the second set," he said.

Lee said he will do his best to perform better in following tournaments.

He also acknowledged that there were many new young players that are catching up not only to him but also Lin Dan.

"We should not look down on young players," he said.
