A father-son duo with the titles 'Datuk Sri' and 'Datuk' were today arrested in yet another bumiputera land scandal, this time in Penang.

The probe, which comes after a scandal involving the conversion of bumiputera housing titles in Johor last month, involves Yayasan Bumiputera Pulau Pinang Bhd.

Yayasan Bumiputera Pulau Pinang was in 2010 placed under the watch of Penang Umno, alongside three other federal government agencies aimed at looking after bumiputera interests in Penang, following the formation of federal foundation Yayasan Aset Bumiputera Pulau Pinang that year.

In a statement today, the MACC said the 'Datuk Sri', 74, and his 'Datuk' son are linked to a "prominent listed Penang real estate firm".

"Both suspects are believed to have abused their positions to sell land owned by the foundation's subsidiary company without due process, at a price far cheaper than the original price.

"Their actions are believe to have cost the foundation's subsidiary company millions of ringgit in the past years," the anti-graft body said in a statement.

The MACC had on March 29 arrested a foundation trustee suspected of abusing his power and conflict of interest.

The 'Datuk Sri', who is also an adviser to the listed real estate firm, was arrested at the Penang MACC headquarters while his son, who is the firm's general manager was arrested at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya, at about 7pm today.

Both are expected to be remanded at the George Town Magistrate's Court tomorrow.

The case is being investigated under Sections 23 and 24 of the MACC Act, with a maximum penalty of 20 years' jail or a fine of up to five times the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher.
