Police resources should be used to fight crime and locate missing persons instead of policing opposition speeches, said DAP's Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim.

"All resources and energy of the police should be used to resolve crime instead of becoming nannies to opposition politicians," he added.

Sim said this after being questioned by the police over his participation at a youth forum in Penang a year ago over violation of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.

He and Batu Kawan MP Kasthuri Patto had both spoke at the "Selamatkan Malaysia" (Save Malaysia) forum in Penang on April 12 last year. Kasthuri was called in for questioning yesterday.

Sim said he was disappointed that the police are reduced to monitoring opposition figures instead of solving real problems such as pastor Raymond Koh's abduction.

"We were told that a police report (against us) had been lodged against the forum by the police themselves.

"This is not only a waste of my time, I could be doing a better job as an MP, but also a burden to the police who always claim they have less personnel to fight crime.

"I will always cooperate with the police but I will not be moved or retreat from fighting evil and I will continue to defend the rakyat," he added.
