Activist Peter Chong had wasted police resources, lamented inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar.

"He (Chong) has wasted a lot of our man hours," he said at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

Chong was reported missing two weeks ago, before it was discovered that he had gone to Thailand to dig up clues about the disappearance of pastor Raymond Koh.

"He (Chong) made people shocked, fired up a lot of people with his actions. So we want to find out why he did it," Khalid said.

The top cop said he was also following up with police in Pattaya on Chong's claim that he was abducted while in Hatyai, before he was released in Pattaya.

Hatyai police yesterday said they had not received a report regarding the abduction.

Khalid declined to comment on whether Chong was telling the truth when he claimed that he was searching for clues on Koh - who was abducted on Feb 13.

Prior to Chong's disappearance, he had posted on Facebook about his encounter with a mysterious stranger who gave him a very cryptic warning about people going missing.

When he was reported missing on April 5, it sparked fears of systematic abductions of activists. 

After the disappearance of Koh, a man called Joshua Hilmy, who is alleged to also be a pastor, Joshua's wife Ruth and another activist, Perlis-based Amri Che Mat, also went missing in the span of less than six months.

Amri, whose wife said he was active in charity work, claimed there were parked motorcycles and cars with their headlights on and people inside, near their house on the night of Nov 24 when her husband left at about 11.30pm.

It was reported that Amri's car was found abandoned some 20km away.

Leaked CCTV footage of Koh's abduction showed the pastor's vehicle was blocked by several others on a busy Petaling Jaya road, before he was taken within seconds.
