Is the EC letter genuine, Amanah Youth asks
Amanah Youth has urged the Election Commission (EC) to verify a picture of a letter purportedly issued by its secretary Abdul Ghani Salleh to stop distributing copies of the additional electoral roll to political parties.
If the letter is genuine, Amanah Youth chief Mohd Sany Hamzan urged the EC to withdraw the order.
"If it (the letter) is real, we feel very disappointed and we urge that this letter is withdrawn so that it is fair to us, the opposition parties," Mohd Sany said to reporters after submitting Amanah Youth's memorandum to EC at their headquarters in Putrajaya today...
"If it (the letter) is real, we feel very disappointed and we urge that this letter is withdrawn so that it is fair to us, the opposition parties," Mohd Sany said to reporters after submitting Amanah Youth's memorandum to EC at their headquarters in Putrajaya today.
The picture of the letter, dated April 18, had been widely circulated on social media.
The letter supposedly stated that EC will no longer provide copies of the additional electoral roll to all political parties, whether in book or disc form.
The additional electoral roll has traditionally been distributed to political parties for them to check, said Amanah Youth elections director Taqiuddin Che Man.
"It is very important to political parties as a form of check and balance, information about future voters in the upcoming 14th General Election (GE14) must be checked for validity," he said.
Without the copies of additional electoral roll, he is concerned that there might be those who will manipulate and trick voters through the EC.
Mohd Sany also gave the EC a week to respond to their memorandum, failing which he would gather all the Pakatan Harapan youth divisions outside the EC headquarters to urge for verification and subsequent withdrawal of the letter.
