Kelantan police last night shot dead two Indonesians, who specialiased in robbing people who have withdrawn large amounts of money from bank Automated Teller Machines (ATMs).

Bernama quoted state acting police chief SAC Din Ahmad saying the duo were identified based on information received from the federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman.

Police got leads on the duo when they arrested two foreigners on a motorcycle in Salor. Upon interrogation, the men told the police they were with two other friends in Kota Baru, for a "job".

Policemen on crime prevention rounds then bumped into a Proton Wira with the two suspects about 9.40pm, and the men sped off when flagged down by the police.

The suspects however, met with a dead end when they came upon a police roadblock, and one of the suspects got down from the car and opened fire at the police.

Police were forced to fire back in retaliation and the second suspect, who alighted from the car and tried to attack the police with a machete, was also gunned down.

Din told a press conference today that the suspects, aged 35 and 45, were Indonesians, including one with a permanent resident (PR) status.

Police seized a .38 revolver and two machetes from the suspects.
