PM Lee shares sibling's wish not to publicly continue feud

Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong today said he shared his siblings’ wish not to carry on their dispute in public and to manage the disagreement in private.

“That is exactly what I have been trying to do,” he said in a statement issued in the city-state today.

Earlier, his siblings Lee Hsien Yang and Dr Lee Wei Ling said they would cease presenting further evidence on social media, provided that theirs and their father’s wishes “are not attacked or misrepresented”.

Hsien Yang and Wei Ling said this in a seven-page joint statement which was posted on their Facebook page today.

“My siblings’ statement also repeats their previous allegations against me. I have already refuted these and stand by what I have said,” said Hsien Loong.

“My siblings referred to a ceasefire offer from them. They wanted me to call off my ministerial statement and the debate in Parliament, disband the Ministerial Committee, and not respond to their accusations.

“I could not agree to do any of that. It would have been improper and irresponsible,” Hsien Loong who is currently in Germany for an official visit and to attend the G20 Leaders' Summit, however, said.

The allegations of abuse of power made against Hsien Loong by his younger siblings on June 14 over their late father's wishes for the family home at Oxley Road had prompted an open debate in Singapore Parliament.

The House had heard fully the accusations against the prime minister and his government.
