DPM's wealth in focus

Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he had doubts about then Umno Youth chief Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's source of wealth when he allegedly declared he had RM230 million but there was no evidence to suggest anything untoward.

Zahid, who was in Parliament for a function was mobbed by journalists about the claim but ignored them and walked away.

Mahathir had also alleged Zahid sought his support to replace Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak. The salvos came after Zahid questioned Mahathir's Malay-ness and raised his Indian ancestry.

Umno's Kinabatangan MP Bung Moktar Radin came to Zahid's defence, accusing Mahathir of political manoeuvring to drive a wedge in Umno.

Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan Mohamed also defended his boss, stating that Zahid's claim that Mahathir's name was "Mahathir a/l Iskandar Kutty" was accurate.

DAP's Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching's emergency motion for Zahid to explain his alleged leaking of Mahathir's details in violation of the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 was rejected by Dewan Rakyat speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia.

Pandikar taken to court over 1MDB questions

PKR's Petaling Jaya Selatan MP Hee Loy Sian took Pandikar to court over his refusal to allow 1MDB-related questions in Parliament.

Pandikar expressed his unhappiness about the move and pointed out that the Dewan Rakyat standing order does not allow parliamentary procedures to be questioned in any court.

PKR deputy president Azmin Ali in a legal letter to inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar asked the police to extradite Penang businessperson Jho Low, a central figure in the 1MDB scandal, failing which a court action will be initiated.

Pakatan Harapan in a joint statement comprising the four component parties said 1MDB's failure to meet its payment to International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC) was evidence that there had been misappropriation.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said 1MDB missing the deadline was a technical matter and that it will be able to pay up.

Harapan turns to Agong over CJ extension

Pakatan Harapan top leaders visited the national palace in an appeal for the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong to intervene in the extension of the chief justice tenure beyond the age of 66 and six months which they claim is unconstitutional.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak highlighted in Parliament the government's goodies for Felda settlers and armed forces veterans, indicating that more will come in the following months.

The Election Commission denied that the 14th general election will be held in October, a claim that went viral due to a video of the EC's election simulation exercise.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) visited Felda's headquarters again and carted away documents amid an investigation into the body's purchase of a hotel in Kuching.

Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad confirmed that amongst those arrested as part of the Felda probe was a Bersatu leader.

Mahathir also revealed that the purchase of the Scorpene submarines were never discussed in the cabinet when he was prime minister and was surprised the orders for the submarine were made shortly after he retired.

RON95 and RON97 petrol saw an increase of six sen per litre, bringing the new price to RM2.07 and RM2.32 per litre respectively.

Social activist Marina Mahathir brushed off a report lodged against her with the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) for liking a Twitter post about the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community.

Looking ahead

Pakatan Harapan MPs will submit a memorandum to Bank Negara in relation to the 1MDB scandal.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will be attending a pre-Asean Games function at the Cheras police training centre.

The Malaysian Bar will meet for its extraordinary general meeting to discuss constitutional questions in relation to the extension of the chief justice's tenure beyond the constitutional limit of age 66 and six months.
