A Bersatu supreme council member remanded in connection with a corruption investigation into the Felda Investment Corporation (FIC) has been released this morning.

Mohd Zahid Mat Arip, an ex-aide of a Felda chairperson, walked out of the Putrajaya lower courts complex about 9.45am, accompanied by his wife, family members and officers from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

"Thank you to the MACC officers for their dedication...," Mohd Zahid said before getting into an MACC car.

Another Bersatu supreme council member, Abu Bakar Yahya, later told reporters it was understood that the court had imposed bail of RM5,000.

"I think he's now being taken for a medical check-up. I was told the bail was RM5,000.

"I'm not sure about the other payments...," Abu Bakar said.

When met later, Zahid's lawyer Fahmi Abd Moin said the court had also set a bond of RM200,000, with two sureties.

"Mohd Zahid has also been ordered to report to the MACC office at any time if needed," Fahmi said, adding that the court has also ordered the release of a FIC former CEO on the same terms.

Bersatu's legal team head Haniff Khatri Abdulla said Mohd Zahid was also released pending completion of ongoing investigations by MACC.

"At any point in time, we will cooperate," Haniff said.

MACC chief commissioner Dzulkifli Ahmad disclosed last week that Mohd Zahid was arrested in relation to FIC's purchase of a luxury hotel in Kuching, Sarawak.

Although Dzulkifli did not mention names, it was believed at the time that the person arrested was the former aide to Isa Samad, who resigned as Felda chairperson on June 19.

The MACC at the time secured a five-day remand order and extended it for another three days on Saturday.

Dzulkifli had ordered an investigation paper to be opened to determine if the hotel was bought at a much higher cost than the market price.
