Possible but unlikely, says PAS on seat discussions with PKR

PAS has not ruled out possibilities of seat negotiations with PKR for the 14th general elections, although noting that it was unlikely to do so with preparations already in place for a three-cornered fight.

Online portal Free Malaysia Today quoted PAS research director
Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki commenting on PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail's recent statement that her party had not ruled out discussing seat allocations with its former Pakatan Rakyat ally.

"We have carried out studies throughout the country and asked respondents for their views on PAS and whether we should work with PH or Barisan Nasional.

"We found that the people, especially Malay Muslims, want PAS to form and lead its own bloc instead of working with PH or BN," Zuhdi reportedly said, adding this was the findings in many areas.

In terms of preparation, Zuhdi said PAS’ election machinery was almost 100 percent ready and any seat negotiations with PKR or Harapan will only result in a 180-degree about turn and affect the election machinery’s efforts.

While PKR appears to take a more open view towards seat negotiations, Zuhdi also said discussions with the party were unlikely as PAS delegates at the party's last muktamar had made their stand clear and voted to sever ties with PKR.

This decision was later endorsed by the syura council as PAS’ highest decision-making body.

After the break-up of former federal opposition pact Pakatan Rakyat, PAS has since set up a third bloc dubbed "Gagasan Sejahtera" with Parti Ikatan Bangsa Malaysia and other supporting NGOs.

Wan Azizah, who is also Pakatan Harapan president, had recently said the main objective in GE14 was to topple BN and PKR is open to trying anything to achieve that goal.

PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali who was earlier this week appointed as Harapan's election director had revealed that informal discussions with PAS have been ongoing over the past several months.
