The police have arrested several individuals in Kelantan suspected of planning attacks in the country.

Inspector-general of police Mohamad Fuzi Harun in confirming the matter said a press statement would be issued soon.

"Indeed, we have made some arrests which were in relation to their (suspects’) planned attacks on certain targets," he said when asked to comment on arrests involving schoolchildren believed to possess and have the skills to produce explosives in Kelantan.

Meanwhile, Mohamad Fuzi said police have received 27 reports objecting to the "Sayang Malaysia, Hapus Kleptokrasi" gathering scheduled to be held at Padang Timur, Petaling Jaya tomorrow.

He said the police were firm in not allowing the rally although the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) had given their approval.

"We are against the rally due to various factors including traffic congestion," he said.

On the fatal accident involving two policemen at Km 139 Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kuantan yesterday, he said police would conduct a thorough investigation into the case.

"I have directed Terengganu police chief (Aidi Ismail) to look into the matter to prevent any recurrence of such incidents. Perhaps, there are weaknesses in the implementation of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs),” he said.

In the 2.55pm incident yesterday, SM Abdul Hakim Samingan, 54, and Kpl I. Suresh, 36, died at the scene after being hit by a lorry which entered the path of the convoy accompanied by the two victims.

Earlier, Mohamad Fuzi witnessed the handing over of duties to new directors of Strategic Resources and Technology (StaRT) Department and Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (JSJK) at the Police Training Centre in Jalan Semarak in Kuala Lumpur.

Bukit Aman JSJK director, Arcyl Sani Abdullah Sani will be taking over as StaRT director following the retirement of Abd Manan Mhd Hassan yesterday, after 41 years of service with the police force.

Amar Singh Ishar Singh who is currently Kuala Lumpur police chief has been appointed new JSJK director.

The appointments will take effect on Nov 9.
