Former Selangor menteri besar (MB) Khalid Ibrahim has no intention to join his fellow former MBs in BN.

Instead, he said that he wants the three of them – Mohamad Khir Toyo (photo), Abu Hassan Omar and Muhammad Muhammad Taib – to join him to fight for the rakyat’s well-being.

“We do not politick for the sake of politics, we politick for the benefit to the rakyat.

“What I say is more important, not where I stand. If Umno supports me in restructuring the water industry (in Selangor), then I agree, we can work together.

“I am afraid that our fight is limited to parties, but it is not so. Our fight is above political parties,” he said to reporters after attending a PAS fundraising event at Shah Alam today.

He also stated that he will not join any political party and that he will not contest in the next general election, be it in a state seat or a parliamentary seat.

PAS Selangor commissioner Sallehen Mukhyi clarified later that what Khalid meant is that he doesn't want to join the three former MBs, but that he is inviting them to join his fight for the people.

Khalid, who was sitting next to Sallehen, agreed with his explanation with a simple, "Yes."

Previously Abu Hassan (photo) had claimed that Khalid was prepared to help BN win back Selangor in the 14th general election, becoming the fourth former MB to help in the mission.

Currently, Khalid is the independent Port Klang state assemblyperson and the MP for Bandar Tun Razak.

In addressing rumours that he would be joining a political party, he said he encourages such rumours.

“This showed that there are people who want me (to join them), not that I want (to join) them,” he said.

But although he will not join any political party, he said that he is willing to work with any party who will uphold and defend the people of Selangor.

“I will stand with PAS or BN or anyone for the benefit of Selangor,” he said.

Abu Hassan’s claims about Khalid come after Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, who is the BN chairperson, announced in a much-hyped press conference last month that Muhammad Taib had rejoined Umno from PKR.

Khalid was jettisoned from his position as MB in 2014, following the “Kajang Move”, a political manoeuvre to replace him with PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim through a by-election.
