Credential revoked, but Zamihan remains defiant

The controversial preacher Zamihan Mat Zin remained defiant despite having his preaching credentials revoked by the Selangor palace.

According to a report by the online news portal Watan Online yesterday, Zamihan said the Selangor Islamic Council's (Mais) move to revoke his accreditation to preach in the state will not dampen his spirit to uphold his faith.

"As a champion of truth, there is no need to be afraid of challenges along the way. There is no need to fear for his life, because he fights only for the afterlife.

"I as a commoner will abide by His Majesty's decision because that is his prerogative. However, this does not mean that my knowledge and spirit to fight for my faith is also 'revoked'," he was quoted as saying.

Mais had revoked Zamihan's credentials upon instruction by Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah after consulting with the council.

"This follows a religious lecture by Zamihan which contained words that are racist, ill-mannered and excessively critical of the royal institution.

"Moreover, the said lecture was delivered at a royal mosque, where a lecture of such nature should not have taken place," Selangor Council of the Royal Court secretary Hanafisah Jais said.

Zamihan is currently under police investigation over his lecture at a mosque in Shah Alam where he criticised an unnamed ruler and two muftis over their opposition to a Muslim-only launderette.

The Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar was the only ruler to have spoken against Muslim-only launderettes at the time, but other rulers had since joined him against the business venture.

Separately, Free Malaysia Today reported that Zamihan had been posting a series of messages on his Facebook page since his release from police custody on Saturday.

He reportedly lashed out against Ahmadiah Muslims, a sect deemed deviant by the National Fatwa Council.

He also targeted lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transsexuals (LGBTs) in another post, and beer festivals in yet another.

His actions had earned him praise among his fans on Facebook, who hailed him as a "warrior of Islam" and welcomed his release.
