The police will haul up the organisers of the anti-kleptocracy rally which took place in Padang Timur, Petaling Jaya on Saturday.

Inspector-general of police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said the investigations will look at whether action had to be taken since the event went on despite objections from the police.

"What is certain is that we will call the organisers (for questioning) because we did not allow the venue to be used for the rally, but they went ahead anyway.

"A thorough investigation would be performed, including (content of speeches) for possible sedition statements or offences under other laws," Fuzi (photo) told reporters today, according to Berita Harian.

This came after the police summoned the rally's secretariat member Lim Yi Wei for questioning yesterday.

The rally organisers had claimed that they have fulfilled the 10-day notice requirement under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 to hold the rally.

However, the police previously urged the organisers to use a stadium instead, citing traffic concerns at Padang Timur.

Meanwhile, there are also complaints about some of the speeches, including one made by Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Among others, PAS central committee member Muhtar Suhaili had urged the authorities to investigate Mahathir under the Sedition Act 1948 for allegedly insulting Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

During the rally, Mahathir said: "Maybe he can trace his ancestry to Bugis pirates. Somehow, he lost his way and came to Malaysia. Go back to Bugis (Sulawesi)!"
