Two-term assemblyperson Teh Yee Cheu, who has voiced his intention to quit the party when the Penang state assembly is dissolved for the general election, said he is being courted by other parties.

Teh, who is the assemblyman for Tanjung Bungah, said that he has been approached by the Malaysian United Party and the Penang Front Party to join them but no decision has been made.

"Currently I am still serving as DAP assemblyman and it would not be appropriate for me to announce now. I will make the decision once the state assembly is dissolved.

"For now I will continue serving the people as a DAP representative as I was elected under the party’s ticket and I will quit the party after the state assembly is dissolved for the 14th general election," he told a press conference in George Town today.

Teh has been at loggerheads with party leaders in recent years, especially on hillslope development, land reclamation and other environmental issues, with the latest incident of a landslide in his constituency on Oct 21, that killed 11 people becoming the “straw that broke the camel’s back” for him.

Teh who joined the DAP in 2000, said he will continue to fight for the minority and weak groups, especially on environmental issues for social justice for the people.
