Campuskini: Enhance your reputation through digital storytelling

Many Malaysian CEOs, executives and business owners acknowledge that their reputation is their most important asset.

But few understand how to enhance their reputation through storytelling .

Successful brands are able to leverage the value of knowledge sharing, thought leadership and content marketing, or digital storytelling.

Global services and consulting companies, such as Deloitte, PwC and McKinsey, have successfully used marketing and thought leadership strategies very well for years.

International business storyteller and digital marketing expert Indhran Marnickavasagar (photo) said the failure to adopt a strategic storytelling approach to a brand’s reputation can impact a brand negatively and hinder growth.

"Managing and marketing your brand’s reputation – online and offline – is vital for building strong relationships with your customers, supporters and funders,” said the digital media marketing campaign coach.

“What are the key issues that affect your company's reputation, and how do you measure how well you are doing in the minds of clients, competitors and media commentators?"

On Saturday, Nov 25, Indhran will coach executives at Campuskini’s Storytelling Workshop and share tips, tricks and best practices on how to navigate business in a turbulent digital world.

After having worked in London, Europe and Australia, he will share how he helped enhance brands such as HSBC, Frost & Sullivan, Gems Education, Electrolux and AstraZeneca.

Over the years, Indhran has helped global brands deliver a compelling story to decision makers and influencers across key ecosystems. Currently, he helps his clients develop provocative, distinctive and credible content to enhance their reputation as innovators, trusted advisers and global thought leaders.

Indhran is also the founder of Sunshine Group, an integrated communications firm with offices in Sydney, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.

The one-day workshop is priced at RM280 and it is HRDF claimable. Organised by others, such a workshop will cost about RM2,000 per day.

The price is fixed at a low rate as this is Malaysiakini’s CSR of giving back to society and caring for those interested in lifelong learning.

This workshop will help participants make strategic choices about promoting and protecting their reputation. It will enable them to communicate the value of a good reputation and how to manage a crisis when the worst case scenario becomes a reality.

Veteran journalist and media coach M Krishnamoorthy (photo) will outline a comprehensive approach to managing situations that may turn into crises, and the handling of crises once they occur.

He will also guide participants how to tell their story to want to get it publicised.

“You will practically learn how to news angle a story and editors will demonstrate on the screen the process of writing and rewriting your press releases.

“Participants will be enlightened on how to write effective news stories and you can bring along your company’s press releases, which the editors can help you to improve it to make it newsworthy,” Krishnamoorthy added.

He worked as a full-time journalist with the Malaysian press for more than 30 years.

As an investigative reporter, Krishnamoorthy highlighted society’s concerns and has gone undercover as a beggar, security guard, a blind person, a handicapped person, salesman, a Member of Parliament and as an executive catching taxi touts at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

He has also had the highest number of front page breaking news articles in The Star.

In addition to being a trainer, Krishnamoorthy currently freelances as a fixer/coordinator for CNN and BBC, German and Australian TV networks and for Time magazine.

He currently teaches at an international university.

This workshop is good for anyone who deals with the media – CEOs, heads of departments, corporate communications and public relations officials, organisation spokespersons, human resources leaders, and those who deal with the media on behalf of their respective organisations.

A book worth RM45 on how to write better press releases and manage crises will be given to every participant.
