Two of the four suspects in the murder of a man at a petrol station in Taman Pelangi in Johor Bahru on Monday have been arrested by the police on the night of the incident.
Quoting sources, Utusan Malaysia reported that two suspects behind the murder of Tan Aik Chai, 44, were caught when the police multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) managed to pursue the suspect's vehicle.
"The MPV was able to locate and surround the BMW 520i which the suspect was driving. The criminals did not have the chance to change the registration number of the car which was used on the night of the incident.
"Currently, efforts to locate the other two suspects are ongoing and they have all been identified and are being pursued by police," said the source when contacted in Johor Bahru this morning, as reported by the Malay daily.
In the incident which occurred at 7.30pm on Monday night, Tan was found dead at the scene of the crime after being stabbed and run over twice by the four suspects.
The victim, who was a moneylender living in Taman Perling in Johor Bahru, had stopped at the Shell petrol station to fill the air in the tyres of his Volkswagen Polo along with a female foreigner believed to be a Vietnamese.
The incident was recorded by a bystander and has since been shared online.
Utusan further reported that the motive behind the murder was believed to have been revenge involving members of a mafia crime group.
Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi yesterday stated that the incident was most likely related to a misunderstanding between two different crime gangs.
Yesterday, the victim's Vietnamese acquaintance along with another woman and two Taoist monks returned to the petrol station to perform a brief Taoist ceremony at the site of the controversial murder, according to the Malay Mail Online.
