Former Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) chairperson Isa Samad was supposed to have his statement recorded yesterday over a probe on the Jalan Semarak land transfer scandal but he is now only expected to do so this morning.

According to the News Straits Times, inspector-general of police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said he was informed that Isa could not make it yesterday and have instead requested for his statement to be recorded today.

“This morning (yesterday/Jan 4), I was informed that Isa would be present at Menara 238 (Commercial Crime Investigation Department Headquarters) at 10am.

“However, I was later informed that he could not make it today (Jan 4). He will only come tomorrow (Jan 5),” Fuzi reportedly said when contacted last night.

Earlier yesterday morning, Bernama had quoted Fuzi saying that Isa was at Bukit Aman and had completed giving his statement.

Last Dec 21, Malay-daily Berita Harian exposed that Felda risked losing ownership of its land in Jalan Semarak worth RM200 million after the transfer of the land through allegedly dubious transactions since 2015.

In response, current Felda chairperson Shahrir Samad announced that Felda had not only lodged a police report against the master developer appointed for the project, but that it would explore all available options to reclaim ownership of the four parcels of land, which were later revealed to actually be worth up to RM1 billion.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak revealed that the government has appointed an external audit firm to conduct forensic auditing into the matter.

The transfer of the land is believed to take place when Felda Investment Corporation Sdn Bhd (FIC) appointed a local company as the main contractor on June 3, 2014, and was given the full power of attorney to develop the land.

Isa was Felda chairperson from 2011 to January last year, Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd (FGV) chairman from Jan 1, 2011, to June 19, 2017, and FIC chairperson since it was established on July 2, 2013, until 2017.
