Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Abdul Rahman Dahlan has made good on his threat to sue PKR vice-president Mohd Rafizi Ramli for defamation.

In a statement today, the minister said during a press conference on Dec 11, he had disclosed that his lawyers were instructed to offer a legal viewpoint on the matter.

After studying the lawyers' viewpoint, Abdul Rahman said he instructed for legal action to be initiated against Rafizi.

“Following this, my law firm Messrs Raja Riza & Associates issued a letter of demand dated Jan 5, 2018, to Rafizi through registered mail and personal delivery on the same day.

“However, the letter could not be delivered personally because Rafizi was not at his office at the Pandan parliamentary constituency service centre.

“A second attempt to deliver the letter to him was done yesterday at the same address. However, Rafizi was not at his office again. Due to this, the letter of demand was accepted by one Mohd Shariffudin, who is believed to be a staff at the service centre,” Abdul Rahman added.

Yesterday, Rafizi told a press conference that he has yet to be served the legal notice by Abdul Rahman.

Abdul Rahman and Rafizi's latest tiff stemmed from the latter's allegation surrounding Expo Negaraku, a month-long event organised by the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) to promote Putrajaya's infrastructure projects.

Rafizi (photo) had accused Abdul Rahman of appointing a relative for the RM37 million job, which he described as a wasteful endeavour.

Following this, Abdul Rahman pointed out that the contractor was not his relative, prompting an open apology from Rafizi.

In his statement today, Abdul Rahman did not state the specific statements which he wanted Rafizi to withdraw.

However, should Rafizi fail to fulfil Abdul Rahman's requests within seven days, legal proceedings would be initiated against the Pandan MP.
