Amanah-linked Felda NGO Anak has urged Felda chairperson Shahrir Samad to reveal the incentive promised to private developer Synergy Promenade in exchange for the return of its prime land on Jalan Semarak.

Anak president Mazlan Aliman, in a joint statement with Amanah Youth deputy chief Faiz Fadzil, said there still were questions that must be raised following Synergy Promenade's agreement to return the 16 plots of land to Felda.

"This is because it is illogical for the company to return the land without any compensation.

"Why should they suffer losses of RM270 million? And so the next question then would be who had received the RM270 million to transfer ownership of the land?" Mazlan and Faiz (photo) asked.

The duo made the call in reference to Shahrir's initial statement that the federal agency did not receive a single sen from the allegedly "dubious transaction" in 2015.

The duo also pointed out that Shahrir had previously said Felda would not go ahead with its Kuala Lumpur Vertical City development on the Jalan Semarak land but has since reversed the decision and allowed Synergy Promenade to proceed with the project.

Mazlan and Faiz also rejected Shahrir's statement that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak was not involved with the controversial deal. They insisted that any transaction related to Felda would have required Najib's approval.

"Shahrir should not be acting like a law enforcement officer when his real role is to revive Felda and not to clear the prime minister's name," they said.

On Monday, Shahrir told Malaysiakini that there was no way Najib would have known of the alleged deal as Felda itself was in the dark on the matter when it had allegedly occurred.

He also said that a probe into the matter was ongoing and stressed that action would be taken, without fear or favour, against anyone found to have played a role in the land transaction.

Even as Felda has regained control over the land, Shahrir said that the forensic audit commissioned by the Prime Minister’s Department would still proceed, as well as police investigations for possible elements of fraud surrounding the deal.

Najib has also stressed that both investigations would continue without any hindrance.
